Terms of use
These terms cover the Slow Humans website, the books published on it, and the companion materials that belong to them. They are between you and Creative Destruction VCC (UIC 208581552), the company that publishes Slow Humans Press. Company details are on the publisher page. For anything in this text, write to [email protected].
Who sells the book to you
The payment provider is the seller of the electronic editions. Payment, VAT, receipts and payment disputes are theirs, and the receipt you receive comes from them. The name of the provider appears at checkout and on the receipt.
What we do is everything else: we publish the book, decide what you are entitled to, give you access to it, deliver the files, and deal with a purchase that is cancelled (see cancelling and refunds).
Print copies, when a title has them, are sold by a print-on-demand platform, which is the seller of the printed copy. Our site only links to it.
Prices for the electronic editions are final and include VAT. They are the same across the European Union.
What you buy
A purchase gives you two separate rights, and the difference between them matters.
| Right | What it covers | How long it lasts |
|---|---|---|
| The book | The edition you bought, in the web edition, PDF and EPUB | Permanently. It does not expire and we do not take it back, except when a purchase is cancelled |
| The current layer | The most recent revision of that edition, and the companion materials and procedures that belong to it | For as long as we state at the time of purchase |
A book carries a version. Buying version 1 of a title entitles you to every revision of version 1 that we publish afterwards - corrections, updated procedures, new companion materials - for as long as your right to the current layer lasts. A new major version, such as version 2, is a new book and a new purchase. We say so on the book’s page before you buy, and your receipt records the version you bought.
If your right to the current layer ends, you keep the book. You stop receiving newer revisions and you lose access to the companion materials, which belong to the layer rather than to the book.
A purchase never gives you a right to one particular file. It gives you a right to the book, which we then deliver in the formats above.
Delivery, formats and the marks in your copy
You read the book in three ways: the web edition in your browser, a PDF, and an EPUB. The web edition needs no JavaScript. The PDF and the EPUB are delivered as temporary download links that you open from your library; the links expire, and you can always ask for a new one.
The files carry no copy protection. You can read them on any device and in any reader that handles PDF or EPUB, and you can keep your own backups.
Every PDF and EPUB you download is marked, at the moment of delivery, with invisible identifiers tied to your purchase. The marks do not change a single word of the text. They exist so that a copy found in public can be traced back to the purchase it came from. Downloading a file means you accept that it is marked in this way.
What you may do with the book, and what you may not
You may read the book, print it for yourself, quote it with attribution as copyright law allows, and use what you learn in your own work, including your employer’s work.
You may not publish, share, sell, lend or upload the files or their contents, in whole or in substantial part, and you may not remove or alter the marks described above. A team licence is the way to give the book to colleagues; see below.
We do not use your purchase to train anything, and we do not claim any right over the work you do with what you read.
Corrections, and when the book is not what it should be
We correct errors in a published book and we publish the corrections as revisions of the same version. If a claim in the book turns out to be wrong or has expired, we correct or withdraw it.
If the book or a file is faulty - it does not open, a chapter is missing, the content does not match what the book’s page describes - tell us. The law entitles you to have it put right: we repair it, and if we cannot, you can require a reduction of the price or cancel the purchase and get your money back. This is not the same as changing your mind, and it is not limited to fourteen days. Cancelling and refunds sets out both, and where the line between them falls.
Team licences
A team licence gives a number of seats. The person who buys it gets a page for inviting colleagues by email; each colleague then has their own right, their own sign-in and their own personalised copies. A seat can be moved to another person, and doing so removes the right from whoever held it before. Above twenty-five people, write to us instead.
An invoice carrying your company’s VAT number is issued by the payment provider, not by us.
Signing in
You sign in with a link sent to your email address, and after that you may add a passkey on the same device if you want to. There are no passwords, and we use no third-party sign-in service. Sign-in links are stored only as hashes and work once. Keep access to your email address: it is how your library is reached.
Free books, gifts and bundles
Some books and materials are free, and some purchases are gifts or bundles. They create the same rights as a purchase, on the same terms. A right that was given rather than bought has no payment behind it, so there is nothing to cancel; if a gift was paid for, the person who paid is the one the rules on cancelling apply to.
How the books are made
Our books are written with the help of AI. How each book was made is described in its own closing pages. The authors supply the experience, decide what the book claims, and approve every sentence that is published. Claims that carry risk are backed by evidence, and the evidence is linked from the claim’s own page.
What the books are not
The books are practical guidance for professionals, not legal, regulatory, medical or financial advice, and not a substitute for advice about your own situation. Decisions about your systems, your data and your obligations remain yours. We are liable for damage we cause by breaking these terms, to the extent the law makes us liable, and nothing here limits your rights as a consumer or our liability for death, personal injury or intentional wrongdoing.
Availability
We run the site with reasonable care and we do not promise it will always be reachable. Planned work is announced when we can announce it. If the site is unavailable for a long period, your right to the book is unaffected; write to us and we will deliver your files another way.
Changes to these terms
We change these terms only for future purchases, never retroactively for a book you already own, except where a change is required by law. Each version of this text carries a version number and a date, and earlier versions stay available. The terms that apply to your purchase are the ones in force on the day you bought it, and your receipt records that day.
Complaints and disputes
Write to [email protected] first; we answer every complaint. If we cannot settle it, you can turn to the Bulgarian Commission for Consumer Protection, or to the alternative dispute resolution body competent for your country. Disputes about payment, VAT or a receipt belong to the payment provider, because they are the seller of record.
These terms are governed by Bulgarian law. If you buy as a consumer, this does not take away the protection you have under the law of the country where you live.
